OYAP Dual Credit Level 1 Program

OYAP Dual Credit Level 1 Programs involve students completing a full semester of cooperative education in a trade with a portion of their time spent completing the Level 1 (basic) apprenticeship in-school training (trade school) at a partner college,  while still in high school.  

The Lambton Kent District School Board currently partners with Lambton College and St. Clair College to offer a variety of OYAP Dual Credit Level 1 Programs.  These programs run in the second semester of the school year and the layout of the program differs depending on the site the Level 1 Basic training is offered.

To find out what programs are offered for the current school year, please make an appointment with a Guidance Counselor or  Co-operative Education Teacher.

How Do I Apply?

The application  process for any of the centrally coordinated 'OYAP Dual Credit - Level 1' programs is as follows:


  1. In the middle of semester 1, Co-operative Education Teachers and Guidance Counselors advertise the offerings for current school year’s OYAP Dual Credit - Level 1 programs.  

  1. Together with a Guidance Counsellor or Co-operative Education teacher,complete an OYAP application for the  'OYAP Dual Credit - Level 1' program specific to your chosen skilled profession. Submit the completed application package which includes all of the following by the mid November due date:

    1. the completed application, complete with parent signature

    2. a resume

    3. a recent copy of a "Student Transcript" which must be obtained from a school's Guidance Counsellor.

  1. The OYAP coordinator and Dual Credit Lead teacher complete interviews at the home school with the student and staff representation.  A mini information session occurs before the interview to ensure student applicants understand the rules and restrictions that apply to the program.  During the interview, the student will be assessed on the following:

    1. Personal Presentation

    2. Attitude

    3. Communication Skills

    4. Motivation

  2. Successful student candidates, parents, and teachers are invited to attend an information session for any of the 'OYAP Dual Credit - Level 1'  programs approximately one month in advance of the program starting to complete final paperwork and to review the guidelines and expectations of the program with all parties involved.


Students are encouraged to consult with their parent(s), their Guidance Counsellor, or a Co-operative Education teacher during the application process and prior to the interview.
